Spot-On Review of Perfumes: The Guide

Perfumes The Guide
Have to say I enjoyed reading this review by Johnathan Meades of the New Statesman of Luca Turin's and Tania Sanchez's book, Perfumes: The Guide.  I particularly like the new name he's bestowed upon this dynamic duo of odor decoders: Turinia.  Sounds like some despotic ruler or fantastic land from a work of science fiction.

Turinia stomped her delicately heeled foot and sighed...

Far, far away, in the dun-coloured hills of Turinia there lived...

And the fact that the first comment came from Luca Turin (correcting a perception created by Meades) tickles me.  The obvious emotion in the other comments is also interesting. We are a passionate bunch.

I've long since put away my copy of the book, and actually cringe each time a favorite perfume saleslady of mine pipes up with "Well, you know, Luca says... " about a new scent her shop is carrying, so I admit I was a little surprised to see the book is still getting fresh press.

But I'm glad for Turinia.  It's hard to write a book, get it published and then get it noticed.  So I don't mind doing my little part in continuing the buzz.
